Jim Shaw Shares Hair Styling Tips in Time for Party Season

The festive season is here and hair salons will be busier than ever as customers make appointments to have their cut refreshed for the festive season.

Jim Shaw tells us that there are three high-demand Signature Looks that he expects his clients to look for this year-the voluminous Quiff, the enhanced bouncy curls and the faux hawk: “Below I describe how I would get these Looks at the Salon and my key products for finishing styles to give them hold and shine all day and all night – the two keys to the festive season.”

Voluminous Quiff

The Quiff is a classic style that never goes out of style, and the holiday season is the perfect time for clients to really experiment with their Quiffs and allow their hairdressers to create something cool and creative by giving the Quiff more shape and extreme volume. For me, it is so important to use a hairdryer and a large palette brush in this Look to direct the damp hair where it is supposed to go and create volume and movement. Once you’ve done that, using a product like American Crew Fiber is a must. This gives the hair even more hold, increases fullness and gives it texture, while giving the hair a hold to keep the style in place all night. It also has a low shine that I like for this Look, so it seems effortless – despite the effort put into creating it!

Improved elastic loops

Curls have been a major trend for customers and the holiday season in recent years. Clients will be happy to come to the salon to make their curls more well–groomed – improved, bouncy, full of shine and with few or no outliers. When creating this look in the salon, I always like to use a hairdryer with a diffuser to work on the curls and give them definition, volume and shine without frizz. I would then use a product as a Label.m Curl Define Souffle gently breaks the curls, improves them and gives them a shiny finish, as well as additional hydration necessary during the winter months. This holiday season, we could also see the return of the perm. Many customers want to completely change their look for the Season and adopt a new style as the new year approaches. A more modern variant of the perm is to wear it with a longer length on top and the hair much shorter on the side, so all eyes are on these magnificent curls!

The false falcon

Inspired by the Mohawk, customers will try to incorporate a faux hawk style into their Look this festive season. This is a great style for those who want something
quick and messy, it doesn’t take much time, looks perfectly styled but has a messy edge. The key to making the false hawk is to make sure that the top of the hair is evenly long, but with layers throughout the upper part to give it shape before bleaching the sides to ensure contrast. You can then use a product such as Label.M MATTE paste for more definition
hawk and to separate the layers and really make them stand out. Finish with hairspray to ensure a day or night outfit.
